You may be thinking to yourself, when will the craziness in 2020 finally be over?
If you can stay present and in your body, living one day at a time in the present, that is the way to go!
Living with the now will prevent you from getting caught up in the stressful “what if’s” of the future.
Feel your feelings. Let them rise and move through you.
Each day you may find yourself on a roller-coaster of emotions, going from low lows to high highs.
When you embrace it all and accept all of yourself you will have a richer experience. Here are the 6 C’s of embracing times of stress with confidence.
The secret?
Learning how to choose love over fear. And consistently choosing it.
Conversation
Do you find yourself having the same conversations over and over again with people?
Are you stressing about the same things week after week?
Whether you are conversing via Zoom or phone or via voice memo or in person with your mates, make note of the types of conversation you are getting involved in.
Are you complaining?
Are you holding space for those who need to vent?
How long are you staying involved in this type of energy?
Have you run out of things to talk about?
I have noticed during this time that some of the people in my circles are re-purposing content.
Do you want to have the same conversation over and over again? Or is that repetitive?
What are you learning? Watching and listening to?
Creating meaning in your life is about learning new things. If you can commit to learning one new thing per day or per week, that then gives you something fresh, interesting and different to talk about.
Plus, it doesn’t drain energy but rather, boosts it!
Consumption
What are you consuming? The news? Do you subscribe to text updates or app updates that bring you back to a state of fear?
As I am writing here now, I just got a pop-up on my computer screen commenting on the current state of the country, showing rising cases.
I recommend blocking these type of messages so they stay out of your sphere of influence.
Your diet is what you watch, what you listen to, what you read, the people you hang out with and the things your subject your mind and soul to.
Always be mindful of the things you put into your body emotionally, spiritually and physically!
Calm
How are you welcoming a calm state of mind?
A great way to get through uncertain times is to go within. To stop looking to the outside world for validity or information.
Spending time, even 17 seconds per day, of quiet, calm stillness can impact your quality of life.
I recommend that you find guided meditations on YouTube and just spend ten minutes a day with yourself.
You can also just set a ten-minute timer on your phone, find a chair or cushion, rest your hands in your lap and just focus on your breath, and the sounds around you.
Enjoy this calm tranquility! It is a great way to reset your mind.
Choice
Remember that you are always at choice.
You can choose to be happy, to welcome the day with a fresh perspective.
You can also choose to be pissed off and frustrated.
So, make good choices for yourself, this could be going to bed at 10pm instead of 1am, or choosing water over stimulants like coffee or alcohol.
Yesterday, I felt challenged in this area and wanted to choose all ways to escape by thinking about going to sugar, alcohol and Tinder.
Instead, I bought a fresh kombucha and enjoyed the healthy sweetness of taking care of my body and gut health.
Care
How are you fueling yourself with care?
“Self-care” and “self-love” are buzzwords flying around a lot lately.
But, seriously how are you taking care of yourself these days?
When you can care for yourself and your body and your well-being first then you have enough in your cup to pour over into others.
Some easy self-care ideas are to journal, lay down and read, take a shower or a warm bath, make an altar, self-pleasure, sing a song, paint, light a candle or make yourself some tea!
Check In
If you find yourself being a grumpy mamita, it’s time to check-in. I love the acronym from burning man – HALT.
Are you hungry, angry, lonely or tired?
If you are hungry, it’s time to make a healthy snack. Maybe cucumber with hummus! A veggie and protein boost, or whatever foods inspire you.
If you’re angry maybe it’s time to move your body and release some of the trapped energy.
You can do a hand scream (literally cover your mouth with your hands and silently scream into them) or shake…maybe do 15 jumping jacks.
Help the anger be recognized and let it move within you. Then once you are less charged maybe it’s a good time to address the person who angered you directly.
If you are lonely, call a friend. Call someone in your support system.
I would love to advise you to not go onto social media and scroll endlessly, opt for a real connection. A quick call or voice note exchange may be just the ticket for you.
If you are tired, drink some calming tea and take a nap. Maybe play some chilled out music in your headphones and take a rest.
Final thought on how to choose love over fear even in trying times
The most profound thing I have learned about health during this period is how important my mental state is – choosing love over fear and really watching what I am consuming. Mentally, energetically, verbally etc.
In my house, we have an agreement to not talk about the “global shift” unless everyone within earshot consents to this kind of news.
All super tips here Kevin and Jade. I spend a decent chunk of my day meditating, doing yin yoga and doing Kriya yoga, in addition to exercising. Fabulous ways to be present and to keep choosing the Truth of Love over the illusion of fear.

Thanks, Ryan. I’ve started doing Yoga Shred and it’s helped immensely. I’ll need to look into Kriya yoga, it sounds fascinating! Thanks 🙂
