Are you aware that getting more of want you want in life, and less of what you don’t is as easy as 1-2-3?
Yup it’s true, and if you’re willing to let go of some old thoughts about why life just seems “so hard” for you, your desires and dreams will begin to unfold.
Still skeptical? That’s understandable since the older we get, the more power we allow those old thoughts to have over us.
For example, if a 6 year-old was headed out to play, would you feel the need to remind them to have fun? Of course not. Yet, as we get older, we need to be reminded of things like having fun, enjoying a vacation, and such.
Is it because we have forgotten how? Perhaps.
However, it’s more likely that we’re just not thinking about fun and enjoyment in our daily living. We’ve instead, somehow shifted from thrive to survive mode – just getting by is now good enough. If your ready to shift back to a life that’s full of love, appreciation, and wonder, here’s the action plan.
Everything begins with thought.
First, understand that every action, or inaction, has its origin in thought. That is to say, you always first think about what you want (or don’t) before you make it happen – for better or worse.
So, let’s begin with your thoughts.
Did you know your brain is positively positive? It’s true. Even the most negative person you know has a 100% positive brain. Our brain is designed to create that which we desire, which first begins with a thought.
If someone says to you, “Don’t picture a pepperoni pizza,” BAM, there it is in your head. Even though you were asked NOT to do it. This illustrates the point that our brain is conceptual and is a tool for creation.
It must first create before it can destroy. Meaning, after you picture the pizza, you can realize your error and then uncreate the image.
Thoughts create emotions that spurs us to act.
Second, thought creates an emotion or feeling that motivates us to action (or inaction, because inaction is also a choice).
That motivation is the catalyst for the final step of what happens in our lives. In the pizza example, it could make us laugh which helps improve memory. Going forward, it will be easier to remember this first action.
The brain is 100% positive and is in the business of creation. Here is where you now begin to think more about what you desire vs what you don’t.
Allow the process to flow more naturally, with less effort. Or, the instant thought of pizza could create a craving that will not relent until you have a slice, or two.
Wouldn’t you like to crave more of what you want in life? And have the motivation to make it happen?
You need to act to get what you want.
Finally, you can see that actions are the final step in getting what you want. Not the first step, but the final step.
You can make all the goals you want. But the success comes in thinking about all the ways to make it happen, then allow yourself to feel how amazing it will be.
Here is where a good game of imagination called, “as if,” is so valuable. Take a moment and just allow yourself to imagine that which you desire, get in plenty of details, as if it’s happening right now. And, here is the missing link that goals and affirmations often miss. Allow yourself to feel all of the wonderful feelings that this “as if” moment creates for you.
Take your time here. This is the meat of the process. Enjoy it.
Tips to help you get what you want just by asking
Now, here are a few tips for helping this process be more effective and easier for you.
First, remember to say what you want instead of what you don’t. For example, you need to say, “Remember your lunch” instead of “Don’t forget your lunch”.
By making your brain first have to imagine what forgetting looks and feels like, you’re creating images and memories of things you don’t want. If that’s confusing, that’s okay because it may be a new concept. But with a little awareness, and a lot of practice, it gets easier. And, pretty soon you’ll notice how negative others are in the way they speak and act, due to negative thoughts.
Another way to help your brain get to business faster is by using action “ing” words as much as possible. “I’m imagining having great success.” vs “I hope I do well.” Doing is more active than do, being is more powerful than just be, and so on.
And lastly, be aware of thinking in Universal Qualifers (UQ’s) because they allow blame or remove personal responsibility. Be specific when imagining that which you desire. Here are a few common examples: Always, never, and everyone.
Now here they are in action:
“You’re always late!” Always?
“You never listen to me!” Never?
“Everyone is talking behind my back!” Everyone?
Get it?
Ask for what you want specifically and put yourself in charge. Ask questions instead of making blanket statements. “How can I…” is a great way to start a conversation with your brain vs “Why does this always happen to me?”
Final thoughts on how to get what you want just by asking
Simply put, everything you desire is just three steps away.
First imagine what you desire in detail and use the “as if” strategy.
Then, while in the “as if” state of mind, really sink into the wonderful feelings that go along with this vivid mind movie of desire. Take as long as you like here and enjoy the ride you are creating.
After that, ask your brain “OKAY, how are we going to make it happen?” At this point you better have a notebook handy because you’re about to hear some really great stuff!
Remember the bonus tools of thinking about what you want, by using plenty of action “ing” words in your thoughts and the way you speak to yourself. And watch out for UQ’s that allow blame because blame takes away your power to create the life you desire and deserve.
Allow for setbacks as you settle into this process.
Find your own way and words of support that are motivational, loving, and benevolent.
You have the power and it all originates with a single thought. Now you can begin to take actions that support your vision, desire, and greater good.
It’s time to put the pedal to the mental.
