How I Lost 10 Kgs in 3 Months With HYPOXI
A big part of self-care is physical health and wellbeing. It’s really hard to love yourself if you don’t like what you see in the mirror, how you fit in your clothes, or how you feel in general.
If you’ve ever found yourself constantly exhausted, irritable, or in pain, then it’s probably time to focus on getting your body to a healthier state. That’s actually why I signed up as a member at Fernwood Fitness, and why I now work as part of the Fernwood Fitness team.
Deciding to improve my physical health was the best thing I ever did. And it could be the best thing for you too.

My favorite Fernwood service by far is the HYPOXI weight loss system, which is a technology-assisted way of targeting subcutaneous fat in the stomach, hips, buttocks, and thighs. In other words, all those areas that are notoriously difficult for women to shift.
Can’t believe it works?
Well, HYPOXI helped me lose the 10kgs I’ve been trying to get rid of for the last eight years. My confidence plummeted as my weight went up, and I deleted nearly all photos taken of me because I just didn’t feel good about myself. I hated what I saw in the mirror, and it didn’t seem to matter what I wore, what make up I used, or what I did with my hair. I looked frumpy and I felt awful.
Thanks to HYPOXI, I went from needing to wear a size 16 to be comfortable to being able to wear a size 10 again (before and after photos in the sections below). I feel lighter, and more energetic. The migraine headaches that plagued me seem to be a thing of the past. I can’t stop smiling. I love what I look in the mirror — with or without make up. And I’m scheduled to do some shopping because most of my clothes are now falling off me!
So, I can say that the HYPOXI weight loss system has certainly worked for me. 😊
If you’re reading this post, you’ve probably tried a lot of different weight loss methods and have been dissatisfied with the results. Why not reach out to your local HYPOXI coach and book a complimentary session? This will allow you to chat about your goals and try one of the machines, so you can decide if this system will work for you.
If you’ve already done a complimentary HYPOXI session at your local Fernwood Fitness gym, and you liked it so much that you signed up for a membership or purchased a session pack, then this post will help you lose as much weight as possible while you’re on the program.
Are you ready to accelerate your weight loss? Let’s get started.
Make the time.
HYPOXI is an amazing system, but it’s not a magic pill. You actually have to come to the gym and do your sessions.
In my case, for example, the 10kgs took a little bit longer to shift because there were 4-5 weeks that I was only able to fit in one session a week. I’m not complaining because 10kgs off is still 10kgs off, but if I had followed the recommended 3x-a-week cadence, I’d probably have had more dramatic results.
So, if quick weight loss is your goal, then I highly recommend booking three sessions a week.
Follow the HYPOXI cycle.
HYPOXI is a weight loss “system”, so you need to adhere to the program to enjoy maximum benefits. The following are especially important:
- Do not exercise six hours before or after your HYPOXI session. Yes, you read that right. If you want to maximize your weight loss, you do not want to exercise too much on the days you’re doing HYPOXI. You want the fat-burning effect to focus on those hard-to-target areas instead of coming from all over the place.
- Do not eat two hours before or after your HYPOXI session. You want to burn fat, not the food you just ate.
- Do not eat (or minimize) carbs six hours before or after your HYPOXI session. Same reason as above.
- Do not consume caffeine six hours before or after your HYPOXI session. Caffeine can increase your cortisol levels, which can make it harder to burn fat, so switch to decaf options if you can.
- Do not consume alcohol six hours before or after your HYPOXI session. Alcohol can stop your body from burning fat.
- Do not wear compression sportswear during your HYPOXI session. You want blood flowing freely in our target areas, which compression sportswear can prevent.
Find low carb versions of food you love.
An important aspect of the HYPOXI system is nutrition, which also tends to be the hardest to implement. If, like me, you love all sorts of carb-laden fat-creating food (and the thought of living a life without them fills you with existential dread), then you need to find low carb versions of the same thing. Or you’ll end up feeling deprived, which often results in binging.
The following replacements worked for me:
- Konjac rice — Eating rice near enough every meal is a given in our household, which is not a good idea when you’re trying to lose weight. With less than one gram of carbs per serve, Slendier’s konjac rice can be a great substitute. You can get it from Woolies and Coles, but it’s cheaper on Amazon.
- Decaf coffee — For me, nothing beats Aldi’s decaf coffee.
- Monk fruit sweetener — I love my coffee with sugar, but because regular sugar is a no-go (especially during HYPOXI training days), I switched to Lakanto Monkfruit Sweetener (Golden, because I like my sugar brown; it’s also available in Woolies and Coles). It has zero net carbs, and I like the taste, so I always recommend it.
- Low carb white bread — I love white bread (and don’t particularly care for the whole grain options), so this one was the toughest for me. Luckily, Coles has a 50% lower carb white bread, while Aldi has a 39% lower carb option. I get whichever one is available (I don’t recall seeing one from Woolies, unfortunately).
- Low carb potatoes — Spud Lite has 25% less carbs, so it’s a great option. Plus, they’re easy to find; I’ve seen this in all major supermarkets in Australia.
Use the HDC suit.
The core of the HYPOXI system are the bikes, but the HDC suit is a great add-on. It can accelerate weight loss by up to 30%, so I used it for the full session (20 minutes) before hopping onto the bike as often as possible. I highly recommend you fit it in, even if it’s just once a week.
Get moving during the days you’re not doing HYPOXI…
When you’re not doing HYPOXI, you’ll want to keep moving so you don’t lose momentum.
For example, I track my steps using Sweatcoin (a free app which rewards your daily steps with a new-generation currency you can spend on products or donate to charity), with the aim of hitting 10,000 steps a day. I don’t always manage to do it, but I find it helps me to have a goal there.
I also invested in a standing desk with a walking pad underneath it.
Another good option is Pilates. Fernwood Fitness has both mat/floor Pilates and Reformer Pilates, so if you’re already a member, you can just register on the app to join a class.
Can’t get to the gym? Try following online! If you’re a Fernwood Fitness member, then you have access to virtual fitness classes. Just log in to your account and follow along.
Or use the sauna.
If you can’t (or don’t want to do any more) exercise, you can use the sauna instead. Our local Fernwood Fitness has an infrared sauna, which I find amazing and which I always recommend. It’s great for inflammation, blood circulation, and relaxation.
Plus, I don’t have to share it with anyone, so I have some proper “me time” for about 30 minutes or so. I bring a book and just sweat all my worries away.
For more information on the benefits of saunas, read Infrared Saunas: What They Do and 6 Health Benefits.
Get enough sleep.
Ever feel that there just aren’t enough hours in the day?
We want to accomplish as much as we can in the number of hours available to us. And if we can’t? We often end up staying later while waking up earlier. No wonder many of us are chronically sleep-deprived.
Unfortunately, insufficient sleep has a negative impact on many bodily functions, including on appetite-regulating hormones. According to Harvard Women’s Health Watch, “Insufficient sleep is associated with higher levels of the hormone ghrelin, which increases appetite, and lower levels of the hormone leptin, which leads to feeling less full. This sets people up to gain weight. By contrast, sleeping more could alter these hormones and bring them back to balance.”
In short, you want to make sure you get enough sleep for optimum weight loss. For more information on how to create a self-care bedtime routine for better sleep, read The Ultimate Bedtime Self-Care Routine For A Restful Night’s Sleep.
Drink more water.
Aim to drink around 2L of water each day. The more hydrated you are, the better. The benefits of drinking water have been well-documented. Among these are:
- Improved mood and concentration
- Improved physical performance
- Improved bowel movement and consistency
For more evidence-based benefits, read Healthline’s 7 Science-Based Health Benefits of Drinking Enough Water.
Manage your expectations.
Finally, remember that sustainable weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint. You want to avoid yo-yo diets and hacks that don’t work.
Again, HYPOXI is not a magic pill. You’ll need to take action if you want to see results.
Speaking of results — bear in mind that individual results will vary based on a lot of different factors, including age, hormones, diet, genetics, etc. So as an example, HYPOXI cannot guarantee that you’ll lose 17.5 kgs in time for your wedding in two months.
That said, HYPOXI is the best weight loss program I’ve ever tried, and I highly recommend it.
